WHO WE ARE

Established in Auckland in 1989, Stephen Matthews Architects is a small team of architects and designers who work together to deliver high-quality architectural outcomes for our clients. Our range of experience and creative problem-solving skills allow us to develop innovative solutions to architectural problems.

OUR APPROACH TO DESIGN

We operate with the understanding that each project comes with a unique set of circumstances and we work closely with our clients to understand their specific requirements and develop an appropriate, tailored architectural response.

We pride ourselves on our careful and considered approach to technical detailing and material selection to ensure that our designs perform well in New Zealand conditions.

SERVICES WE OFFER

Stephen Matthews Architects has experience across a wide range of architectural projects throughout New Zealand; from small-scale additions/alterations, to bespoke new builds, and large-scale commercial facilities. We offer our clients the option of a full design-and-build service where we manage the project at every stage to ensure the process runs as smoothly as possible.

Our thorough and current knowledge of Council planning regulations and consent procedures, and our longstanding relationships in the construction industry mean that we are able to competently navigate the complex process of taking a project through from conception to completion. We pride ourselves on clear and effective communication with clients, contractors and consultants throughout our time working together.

For clients wanting to explore the development potential of a site or building they own or are considering purchasing, we offer a consulting service to provide feasible options for development within applicable planning controls and indicative budgets.

WHY USE AN ARCHITECT?

The architect’s role is to guide their client through design, planning and construction, to bring value for money through design and to provide peace of mind.”

An architect’s work is essentially driven by four fundamental elements: technical skill, practical understanding, analytical ability and creativity.”

- New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA)
